A man is fighting for his life in hospital after a car he was passenger in crashed into a wall.
The driver, a 33-year-old man, fled the scene but was later arrested.
The 19-year-old passenger was found to have suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital by paramedics, where he remains in a critical condition.
Police said a Ford Fiesta the pair were in had left the road, for reasons not yet known, and crashed into a wall and parked vehicle on Rutherford Road in the Red House area of Sunderland, at about 8.20am on Sunday (September 29).
The driver was later found and arrested and remains in police custody while officers investigate.
A full investigation is now underway, Northumbria Police said.
A force spokesperson said: “Officers are particularly interested to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage.
