One person has been taken to hospital following an incident on the A19.
Emergency services - including an air ambulance - were called to the major road at Murton, near Dalton Park, on Sunday (September 29) just after 11.49am.
Several paramedic teams from the North East Ambulance Service attended the incident, with AA Traffic News reporting that all lanes had been stopped.
The ambulance service has now confirmed that it has taken one person to hospital for further treatment. Details regarding the nature of the incident and the condition of the person involved is not yet known.
The incident is believed to have taken place on the Southbound route - although Northbound was also affected.
AA Traffic News reported delays of five minutes and an average speed of 15mph.
Durham Constabulary said: "A road closure is currently in place on the A19 at Murton in both directions. Please find an alternative route."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 11.49am to reports of an incident on the A19 in Murton.
"We sent a rapid response paramedic, a Hazardous Area Response Team, a clinical team leader, air ambulance and two emergency ambulance crews.
"One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."
