A young Romanian pianist will open the Darlington Piano Society's 2024-25 season.

Cristian Sandrin, a London-based musician, will perform at Central Hall, the Dolphin Centre, at 3pm on October 20.

His performance is the first in a series of six recitals, featuring international pianists, all of whom are first-time performers for the society.

Cristian came to the UK at the age of 19 to study at the Royal Academy of Music and made his debut at the Wigmore Hall in 2017.

In 2024-25, he will be playing at St John’s Smith Square and in Milan, and making his debut at the Beethovenhaus in Bonn, Germany.

His programme includes Purcell’s Suite no.7, two sonatas by Mozart, Schumann’s Kreisleriana, and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, arranged by Mikhail Pletnev.

Greg Johnson, society chairman, said: "Cristian’s programme is a readily accessible beginning to the season, with early Mozart sonatas at its heart, and I would encourage attendance at the recital.

"The season has an extensive range of works from the 17th century Orlando Gibbons to works by living composers, Carl Vine and Alvidas Remesa."
