A teenager is fighting for his life after being knocked off his bike.
A 28-year-old man behind the wheel of a silver VW Golf which had collided with the cyclist, 16, was arrested at the scene.
It happened on Walker Road in Byker, Newcastle shortly before 9pm on Friday (September 27).
The boy was found to have suffered serious injuries and he remains in a critical condition in hospital.
The driver remains in police custody, officers said, while an investigation is underway.
Sergeant Steven Chappell from Northumbria Police said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the teenager at this time.
"We are working hard to better understand the circumstances surrounding this incident, especially the moments leading up to the collision.”
Sgt Chappell urged any witnesses, especially dashcam footage, to come forward,
