A group of Darlington yarn bombers have been left devastated after the vandalism and theft of some of their latest creations.

Just days after placing their autumn display up at the Asda in Whinbush Way, the Whinfield Yarn Bombers discovered two had been stolen while a third was ripped off.

Yarn bomber Lesley said: "We are absolutely devastated. We don't understand why anyone would do this.

"We do this for the community. It is senseless."

"We placed them at Whinbush Way on the post box in the Asda car park on the site of the road covering seven bollards. The hedgehog that was vandalised and stolenThe hedgehog that was vandalised and stolen (Image: Contributor)

"On Wednesday morning it was discovered three had been taken. They stole two and the third, a hedgehog, was cut off and taken away."

She added: "We used to put them on with plastic cable ties, but they got cut. This time we put on metal cable ties hoping it wouldn't be easy to remove.

"There's always one or two stolen. every time we put them out. Sadly it's sort of a given. They must have the ties on two of them but couldn't cut the one that had the hedgehog on, so they have just cut it off and left the remnants."

The group, which comprises several members, has contacted the local PCSO.
