A teenager has been arrested after a man died in a horror crash in County Durham.

Police and paramedics were called to Spring Road, in Murton, on Sunday (September 22) around 7.30pm following a four-vehicle crash involving a motorbike and a pedestrian.

The incident took place at the Dalton Park roundabout, with pictures showing the large-scale emergency response, which included the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

Tragically, the 29-year-old rider was pronounced dead at the scene - and has since been named locally as Andrew Robson.

Durham Constabulary has confirmed that a man, aged 17, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in custody and will be interviewed later today.

Police previously said the roundabout, which joins the A19 and A182 near Murton, was due to be closed for some time following the serious crash.

Officers now wish to speak to anyone with dashcam/CCTV footage of the incident or anyone who witnessed the incident.

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: “As we carry out our investigation, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.”

A North East Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic collision on Barwick Road, Seaham at 7.38 yesterday evening.

"We dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a clinical team leader and a specialist paramedic. We were also supported by Great North Air Ambulance's medical car.

"We transported one patient to Sunderland Royal Hospital and two patients were treated and discharged at the scene."
