A charity golf day has raised more than £40,000 to help make a difference to the lives of young people in the North East.

The first-ever UchangeLives Golf Day was organised by the PFC Trust, a Hartlepool-based charity, in collaboration with the North East STEM Foundation.

The money raised will be divided between the two organisations, helping to support their work in the community.

The event was held at Seaton Carew Golf Club, one of the oldest and top-rated golf courses in England.

The winning team from Verso Financial Management, led by Seaton Carew Golf Club’s captain Phil Cain, won a four-day stay at next year’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

Frances Connolly, founder of the PFC Trust, said: "We’re absolutely thrilled with the success of our first UChangeLives Golf Day.

"The support we’ve received from local businesses, volunteers, and participants has been overwhelming.

"This event is a reminder of what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared goal of making a positive impact."

The event saw 19 teams of four compete, with former Liverpool and England international John Barnes handing out the prizes.

The funds raised will help the PFC Trust continue its work supporting people and organisations in the area.

The North East STEM Foundation will use its share of the proceeds to promote educational opportunities for young people in STEM subjects.

Tania Cooper, chair of the North East STEM Foundation, said: "We were honoured to partner with the PFC Trust for the first UChangeLives Golf Day.

"The funds raised will make a tangible difference to the lives of young people here in the North East."
