Residents and commuters in Darlington are advised to plan ahead for potential traffic delays, as roadworks start.

The Northern Gas Networks is preparing to commence a mains replacement scheme at Albert Road Bridge, to improve Darlington's gas infrastructure.

The project, set to begin on Monday, September 23, will involve the use of two-way signals for approximately eight weeks, with the expected completion date set for November 18.

Additionally, a one-day road closure is scheduled for Sunday, October 20, as part of the project.

A spokesperson for Darlington Borough Council emphasized the importance of allowing extra time for journeys during this period, as the roadworks are likely to cause disruptions.

Motorists and pedestrians have been urged to consider alternative routes to minimize inconvenience delays and congestion buildup.

A spokesperson for Darlington Borough Council said: "Northern Gas Networks have a mains replacement scheme starting Monday 23 September at Albert Road Bridge using two-way signals for approximately 8 weeks until 18 November.

"Please allow more time for your journey as there may be delays.

"There will be a road closure in place for one day only on Sunday 20 October."
