Stokesley Show 2024: Crowds flocked to historic event

The Show is a 'must-visit' in the agricultural calendar for those in North Yorkshire, Teesside and the North East, while many also travelled from further afield. 

In what was a clear day for people visiting Stokesley Showground, there was something for everyone, as competitions, livestock, shopping and demonstrations came to the forefront. 

Livestock and agriculture took centre stage (Image: SARAH CALDECOTT) This year's event was the 165th edition of the Show, which saw agriculture take centre stage, and was also joined by entertainment, shopping, demonstrations and competitions taking place throughout the showground.

The president of the 165th Show, John Fletcher, welcomed the crowds, which was thought to be between 15,000 and 20,000 people. 

Stokesley Show (Image: SARAH CALDECOTT) Mr Fletcher, who has an agricultural background, spent his teenage years in farming in Little Ayton, and, for 20 years, has been a member of the Stokesley Agricultural Show Society.

The Stokesley Agricultural Society was formed in 1859 to run an agricultural show.

Like other years, the Show began with a band entering the Showground, which was a spectacle for the crowds who had flocked to the event. 

Elsewhere, giant vegetables, livestock, and competition could be seen in several of the marquee tents around the Showground.
