A group of Darlington students and school children have seen their artwork installed at a new housing development first-hand.

Students from West Park Academy were given the honour of cutting the ribbon at the opening of a show home at the Westville Quarter development in West Park, Darlington.

They were surprised to see how their designs had been incorporated into the interior decor, having created designs for bedroom three in the Miller Homes show home.

Their artwork was translated across the entire interior scheme through fabric, wallpaper, and feature wall art.

Sales director Donna Clark, said: "This show home is particularly special because quite a lot of the interior design ideas have been created by local children and students.

"It was fantastic to see their delight as they realised how their drawings and inspired designs came to life.

"It was lovely to see so many people come and support them and see the pride they felt in their incredible achievements."

The third bedroom was inspired by nine-year-old Freya, who wanted a quiet corner in her rainbow and star-designed scheme.

The built-in cupboard was used to create the cosy corner she had envisioned.

The work of the local students was a source of inspiration for Miller Homes' interior designers, who incorporated their colours and designs into the overall concept.

Two of the college winners, Esme and Lily, both 17, had their designs turned into wallpaper and artwork for bedroom two.

Downstairs featured two runner-up designs, with a striking blue architectural-inspired wallpaper by Hope, complemented by a framed piece of artwork created by Sophie using the technique of continuous line drawing.

Ms Clark said: "These children and students really embraced the brief we set them and they are clearly very talented.

"There is little wonder that some of the older students are considering a career in interior design – we wish them well in whatever the future holds for them."

The Fordwood show home is open for viewing between Thursday and Monday from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
