A man has been taken to hospital with suspected head injuries after a van overturned and landed on its roof during a crash between Billingham and Hartlepool this morning.
Emergency services were alerted to a collision on the A689 at its junction with Dalton Back Lane near Hartlepool at about 8.45am on Friday (September 20).
The road was closed as paramedics treated a man before taking him to hospital.
Pictures from the scene showed a white van on its roof and a silver Volkswagen with front-end damage.
There was significant traffic disruption on the busy road, with traffic diverted down the narrow Dalton Back Lane.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "At 8.45am on Friday 20 September police were called to a collision on the eastbound carriageway of the A689 involving two vehicles with one landing on its roof.
"A man was treated by paramedics for a suspected head injury and was taken to hospital by ambulance."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 8.45 this morning to reports of a road traffic incident involving a van and a cat at the junction of A689 and Dalton Back Lane in Billingham.
"We sent two emergency ambulance crews, a doctor and a clinical team leader. One patient was transported to North Tees Hospital and a second made their own way to hospital."
The road was reopened at about 11.30am.
