A man who died in an incident at a County Durham sign factory has been named.

Nigel Brooks, 45, from Stanley, died at work at the Interplan Sign Systems factory in Consett on August 27.

Police were called after Mr Brooks' body was found at the factory on Hownsgill Drive after he was reportedly involved in an incident with a machine.

It is understood he became trapped in a piece of industrial equipment at the factory.

Detectives previously said his death is being treated as “unexplained” and launched a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned earlier this week.

A HSE spokesperson said: “We are jointly investigating along with Durham Constabulary into the death of an employee at Interplan Sign Systems Ltd, Consett.”
