A suspect has been charged with wounding after a man was seriously hurt in an alleged stabbing yesterday.

Two people were arrested after a 37-year-old man was taken to James Cook University Hospital after an incident in Ruskin Avenue, Acklam, in Middlesbrough, at 2.30am on Thursday (September 19).

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "A man has been charged after a report that a man was stabbed on Ruskin Avenue, Middlesbrough, around 2:30am on Thursday 19th September.

"A 37-year-old man was taken to James Cook University Hospital with serious injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening. He remains in hospital at this time whilst receiving treatment.

"A 29-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent and is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court today, Friday 20th September.

A 27-year-old man also arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and possession of a class C drug remains on conditional police bail.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said, "We were called to an incident at a private address in the Acklam area of Middlesbrough just after 2.30am this morning (Thursday 19 September).

"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and were supported by the Great North Air Ambulance medical car.

"One patient was taken to hospital."
