The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide was unveiled on Friday and it has been revealed that five North East universities are ranked among the best in the UK.
The list is compiled each year and ranks further education institutions on a variety of factors including results and graduate prospects.
Durham University - Rank 1, North and North East
Durham University was shortlisted for University of the Year and also climbed to its highest ranking in the last five years, reclaiming a spot in the top five universities nationally.
The city's university also was runner-up in University of the Year for Graduate Employment.
It took the top spot in the North and Northeast categories.
Newcastle University - Rank 5, North and North East
Newcastle University retained its spot as a top 30 university nationally and was named in the top five in the North and North East.
Northumbria University - Rank 6, North and North East
Northumbria University was named as Modern University of the Year 2025 by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, it has recently been awarded more than £9 million to create the UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) AI Centre for Doctoral Training in CitizenCentred Artificial Intelligence.
It climbed six places to rank 43rd nationally.

Teesside University - Rank 13, North and North East
Teesside University was a joint runner-up in the University of the Year for Social Inclusion category, losing out to York St. John.
It ranked 104th nationally.
University of Sunderland - Rank 14, North and North East
The University of Sunderland ranked just behind Teesside University nationally, coming in at joint 105th in the country.
The Wearside institution is ahead of the University of Bradford and Leeds Trinity in the North and North East category.
