Firefighters are tonight tackling a blaze at an allotments in Blackhall Colliery.
Flames began to spread at the allotment off Meadow Avenue and Glenholme Terrace just before 7pm tonight (Thursday, September 19) with thick smoke seen over the area.
Two fire crews were called out and remain at the scene attempting to stop the fire spreading and put out the flames (as of 8.15pn).
A spokesperson for the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: “The call came in at 7.02pm. Two appliances are on the scene. It is still ongoing.”
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
