One of the region’s busiest Wetherspoon pubs will reopen next week after a £2.2m refurb.
The Mile Castle in Newcastle, the city’s main Spoons and one of its biggest watering holes closed in June for a major upgrade.
The pub chain has confirmed the busy pub will reopen on Tuesday next week (September 24) at 8am.
The reopening was delayed by three weeks earlier this Summer as works dragged on longer than planned.
The venue, which opened in December 2009, has been undergoing a full internal revamp including decoration, carpets, upgraded lighting, extending the bar on the third floor and creating a new cellar.
New toilets have been added and kitchen facilities improved, bosses say.
A new Spoons hotel in an adjoining building will open on November 12, along with a new 3,000-square-foot beer garden on the site of a former car park.
In total, it will represent an investment of £5m.
Manager Kristopher Lee said: “The £5 million investment highlights Wetherspoon’s commitment to the pub, its staff and customers, as well as to Newcastle itself.
“We are delighted that we have also created 70 new jobs for local people.
