A police officer is facing disciplinary action after they were accused of failing to protect a vulnerable victim of domestic abuse.
The Cleveland Police officer, named only as PC Cox, is alleged to have breached the standards of professional behaviour, specifically the standards of honesty and integrity; duties and responsibilities; and discreditable conduct.
The allegation reads:
- It is alleged that PC Cox failed to safeguard a vulnerable, repeat victim of domestic violence;
- failed to complete and submit a crime report or public protection notice in relation to the alleged assault on Person A;
- and made a false entry on police systems and knowingly omitted relevant information. It is alleged that PC Cox behaved in a manner that discredits the police service and did not carry out his duties and responsibilities.

If the case is proven the officer could be dismissed from the force for gross misconduct.
A finding of gross misconduct could lead to dismissal without notice and an officer being placed on the College of Policing barred list preventing them from working for any other force in the country.
The two-day hearing, which will be heard by a legally qualified chairman, is due to take place on September 25 and 26 at Scotswood House, Thornaby.
Members of the public wishing to attend the hearing need to register on the force website.
