Staff at a supermarket in the region have voted in favour of strike action, a trade union has said.

GMB said employees at Asda Skelton are taking industrial action over concerns about health and safety, a loss of working hours in the store and the wider fight for equal pay.

A protest will take place outside the store today [Thursday September 19] at 11.30am.

A ballot saw GMB members vote to walk out and with strikes on September 28 and 29.

Louise Race, GMB organiser, said: "Never before have Asda workers in the region voted for strike action.

"This is a clear message to Asda management that it’s time for change."
