The trial of three people accused of leaving an alleged drug dealer as a paraplegic when he fell from a window while fleeing an armed gang is coming to a conclusion.

Samantha Nunn, her boyfriend Kallum Shilham, and Andrew Hobson were caught on Ring doorbell footage using weapons to smash their way into a house intent on violence, a jury heard.

All three defendants maintain that they never intended to cause serious harm to the 20-year-old when he broke his neck after suffering catastrophic head injuries when he tried to flee to safety.

Jurors heard how the man was left requiring round-the-clock care as a result of the injuries he suffered in April.

Teesside Crown Court heard the closing speeches from the prosecution lawyer and the three legal representatives from the defendants.

Jurors heard how the defendants are accused of going to the house on Parkfield Way, Thornaby, in order to ‘tax’ a drug dealer – take the drugs and cash from the property.

Robert Mochrie, representing Nunn, said: “Her behaviour that night was disgusting, she behaved appallingly and committed a criminal offence.

“She accepts that but for her actions, the way that she spoke, the encouragement to those men to go into the house – he would never have got onto the window ledge and he would not have fallen.

"She maintains that she didn’t intend to cause really serious harm.”

Erin Kitson-Parker, representing Shilham, who has admitted a charge of causing grievous bodily harm without intent and possession of a bladed article, said: “He didn’t shout, he wasn’t threatening, he didn’t go in with a weapon and stab him. He didn’t go upstairs to hurt him.”

While Andrew Turton, representing Hobson, accepted that his client had turned up at the property to scare or intimidate the occupants but maintained that he never meant to cause serious harm.

Jurors had watched footage of Hobson appearing to rifle through the pockets of the victim as he laid seriously injured on the ground.

Dealing with that element, Mr Turton said: “It is to his eternal discredit that he looked for items to recover from him while he was lying prone on the floor.

“That is something that he regrets. It is something that you will have to consider and it is something which does not do him any favours at all.”

Nunn, 33, of Sandringham Road, Thornaby, is charged with aggravated burglary and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Jurors heard she has admitted a lesser charge of causing grievous bodily harm without intent.

Her boyfriend, 24-year-old Shilham, of Harrowgate Lane, Stockton, has denied the same charges and also admitted the lesser charge and pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article.

The third defendant, 45-year-old Hobson, of Sun Gardens, Thornaby, has denied both charges and also denied the possession of an offensive weapon - a pool cue.

The trial continues.
