A former Darlington disco business is being converted into a three-bedroom flat.
206 Disco on North Road was once a popular place for school children to go to for parties but work has now started to convert the first floor into a three-bedroom flat.
The application was first received March 14 and the application was granted on May 10, 2024.
Pictures from the scene show that work has started in earnest with one ground floor wall being knocked in.
The description of the work on the Darlington Borough Council website states: "Prior Approval application for the part change of use of first floor from commercial, business and service (Use Class E) to a three bed flat (Use Class C3) (amended plan received 7 May 2024)"
Arthur Howson, a highway engineer, raised "no objections" to the proposal during planning.
He said: "The proposed flat is in a sustainable location with good links to local shops and amenities.
"The nearest bus stops are located within close proximity of the site and have frequent in bound and out bound services.
"Advisory cycle routes are also located next to the site, with an on-street route to wider cycling infrastructure signed via Akrigg Street.
"No reference is made to parking provision, so it is assumed that no parking is to be provided.
"The Tees Valey Design Guide advises that flatted developments are recommended to have parking provision at a rate of 1.5 spaces per apartment.

"Based on this requirement it would be difficult to evidence sufficient impact to warrant refusal on traffic or parking grounds.
"It is reasonable to conclude that parking associated with the development could be accommodated on the local highway, as it does not demonstrate additional demand over the current use class.
"In order to promote use of sustainable modes of transport, I would request that secure cycle parking should be provided within the site, at a rate of one space per bedroom."
