Plans to convert a County Durham barn into a residential property have been lodged with the council.
The proposal is to transform a single-storey, traditional stone barn on Ludwell Farm, near Eastgate, into a three-bedroom home.
The barn, which is part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), is surrounded by fields and is near two listed buildings, the Farmhouse and another former house.
The design plans to keep much of the barn's original structure, including its stone walls and timber roof.
However, the applicants say that modern elements such as insulation and damp-proofing will be added.
Traditional timber designs with painted finishes will be used for windows and doors to match local heritage.

A large glazed opening will be added to the east gable to bring in more light and modernise the living area.
The barn is accessible via a minor road connected to the A689.
The project also plans to create parking spaces for two vehicles and ensure safe access for both pedestrians and vehicles.
Drainage and sewage will be managed through a treatment plant to ensure the site remains environmentally sustainable.
The barn itself is not listed or of significant historical importance, but its conversion must be done with care to respect the historical setting.
The proposal argues that converting the barn into a residence will have a positive impact by preserving the character of the farmstead and preventing the barn from falling into further disrepair.
The planning application confirms that the site is not at risk of flooding, and biodiversity will not be negatively impacted.
