Two people have been arrested in Darlington after their homes were searched.

A man and a woman were arrested last Thursday (September 12) after searches on Alfred Street and Elizabeth Place.

Officers from North Road and East Neighbourhood Policing Teams carried out the searches as part of Durham Police's crackdown on antisocial behaviour.

The man was then charged with three shoplifting offences and remanded to court the next morning.

The woman was arrested for drug offences and has been released while investigations continue.

A Darlington Police spokesperson said: "A male and female were arrested last Thursday morning following the execution of not just one, but two drug warrants at Alfred Street and Elizabeth Place.

"The male was subsequently charged with three shoplifting offences and remanded to court the following morning.

"The female was arrested for drug offences and has been released under investigation."
