Thirsk School
Young people applying to a North Yorkshire school for entry next September will hear the words ‘be more Thirsk’ spoken with pride.
Starting secondary education is a big step and making the right decision for your child’s schooling is critical.
Thirsk School & Sixth Form College measures itself by its aims and values and on being at the heart of the local community. The staff at the school recognise and celebrate the achievements of all their students and regard the gifts and talents of each one as equally important.
While it is unashamedly a high-achieving school striving to ensure academic success within its student body, the staff also endeavour to develop the ‘whole person’ through extra-curricular activities, including music, drama, sport and by supporting the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme up to gold level.
Headteacher, Emma Lambden said: “We are a long-established rural school that is a big part of the town and community. Our ethos - Be more Thirsk reflects not only our pride in being part of the local community, but sums up our school values and aims”.
The values of the school are simple but clear, and are displayed throughout the building. Togetherness, honesty, inclusivity, respect, support and kindness.
“Based on these values, we believe that our students can fulfil the vision we have for them to become tolerant, happy, inspirational, successful and knowledgeable people," said Miss Lambden.
“We attract students from all parts of Richmondshire and Hambleton, and have had generations of the same family through our doors. Our modern foreign languages department offers both German and French, which, include school trips abroad.
"Everyone at the school supports talent, and nurtures a well-rounded education. Our performing arts shows are legendary, and many of our young people are, and have been, involved in sport at county and national level.
"We offer the only sixth form in the area and are delighted that many of our students choose to carry on their further educational journey with us".
This year's open evening will take place on September 26, 5-8pm, with two open mornings taking place October 3 and 17, from 9am until 11:30am.
These mornings will give parents the chance to meet the Headteacher and view the school during a typical working day.
To book a place on an open morning, please email hannah.winder@thirskschool.org. The spaces are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis.
