A woman believed to be in her early 20s is this afternoon in hospital after a crash between her car and an HGV on the A1(M).
Emergency crews were called to the motorway about two miles south of Chester-le-Street at about 2.15pm on Friday (September 13).
A car and HGV had collided and the road was partially blocked.
A woman believed to be in her early 20s who was driving the car was treated by paramedics and deemed to have suffered a head injury.
She was taken to University Hospital North Durham by paramedics as a precaution, police said.
The incident, which cleared at about 4pm, left long queues on the motorway throughout the afternoon.

A force spokesperson said: “The collision between an HGV and a car happened between Junction 62 and 63, approximately two miles south of Chester-le-Street.
“The driver of the car, a woman believed to be in her early 20s, suffered a head injury and was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham by ambulance as a precautionary measure.
“The carriageway was partially blocked by the collision, but has since been cleared.”
