Five drivers have been fined for speeding on the A1(M) among other offences.

The drivers all appeared at Peterlee Magistrates' Court, where they pleaded guilty or the court found them guilty in their absence of the offences. 

5 drivers fined for speeding on the A1(M) in County Durham:

Jeevan Bana Singh Johal, 21 of Skip Lane, Walsall pleaded guilty to exceeding the motorway speed limit in a Ford on the A1(M) J61 Bowburn to J62 Carrville.

He was fined £40 with court costs of £90 and a victim surcharge of £16. His driving record was endorsed with three points.

Michael Anthony Allan, 61, of Hulam Farm, Castle Eden pleaded guilty to speeding in a Land Rover Defender on the A1(M) J61 Bowburn to J60 Bradbury.

His case involved mitigating circumstances of exceptional hardship due to the potential loss of business and impact on employees.

He was fined £618 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £247 plus court costs of £110.

Anthony Stanton, 41, of Neville Road, Pallion was proven in absence of speeding on the A1(M) J61 Bowburn to J60 Bradbury.

He was also proven to have driven a vehicle without according licence and without third-party insurance.

He was fined £660 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264 and costs of £110. He was also disqualified from driving for 56 days. 

Azar Ali, 53, of Ashfield Road, Cheadle was proven in absence of speeding, plus not having a licence, and without third-party insurance in a BMW on A1(M) J63 Chester-le-St to J62 Durham.

He was also proven to have failed to give information when required relating to the driver of the vehicle.

He was fined £660, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264 and costs of £85. His driving record was endorsed with six points. 

James Peter Grant, 25, of Marmion Court, Worsdell Court, Gateshead pleaded guilty to speeding in a Volkswagen Golf on A1(M) J59 Aycliffe to J60 Bradbury.

He was fined £200, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £80 and costs of £110.

His driving record was endorsed with three points.
