Although a chilly Thursday night brought many the first frost of the season - this weekend is set to be full of autumn sunshine and warmer temperatures.
After a changeable summer, the weather will shift again with temperatures in the North East will climb to a pleasant 18°C again in some areas on Saturday and Sunday.
For tonight, a dry and largely clear evening is anticipated. However, cloud cover is expected to increase later in the night, with breezy conditions over hills possibly leading to patchy low clouds over the highest summits by dawn. The minimum temperature is forecasted to be 8°C.
On Saturday, the region will experience generally cloudy but bright and dry conditions. While it will be breezy over hills, the rest of the area will experience less wind.
Brrr did you notice the chill last night?

Monday is expected to bring sunny intervals with early mist and fog, although it will become cloudier later.
Unfortunately, by Tuesday, the forecast suggests a rather cloudy day with some drizzle in the west.
The long-range weather forecast from the Met Office predicts cloud and outbreaks of rain next week, affecting some northern areas for a time on Tuesday, with dry and sunny conditions further south.

Winds could be fairly strong at times in the south, with some overnight mist and fog in parts of the north.
Temperatures during the day will likely be above average in many areas, although some cold nights are possible in places.
A similar pattern will probably persist through the following week, although by late September there is a chance that more unsettled conditions may begin to develop.
