A man has been arrested after an armed robbery at a Londis in Thornaby last night

The incident was reported at 7.10pm last night (September 12) at the store on Vulcan Way.

A man was reported to have run behind the counter and demanded cash.

He fled before police officers arrived at the scene.

A 33-year-old local man has been arrested and is being questioned in custody.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "At 7.10pm on Thursday 12 September police received a report of an armed robbery at a convenience store on Vulcan Way in Thornaby.

"A man is suspected of running behind the counter and demanding cash before fleeing prior to the arrival of officers.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Cleveland Police on 101 quoting reference number 176187."
