The run to honour Sam Wealleans will be going ahead this Sunday to complete the final 2.1 miles of his Great North Run along the South Shields coast.
Mr Wealleans, 29, from Newbiggin, Northumberland died in the hospital after falling ill during the run.
Beautician Stephanie Cochrane, 32, from North Tyneside, had never met Sam but felt it was right to honour his life and support his family through their hardship.
She emphasised that it was not an official event and that she was not an event organiser, just a member of the public paying her respects.
She said: "Myself and a few others, will embark on a 2.1 mile Honour Walk/Run, for the amazing Sam Wealleans.
"We will meet at around 10:45-11am at Souter Lighthouse Carpark SR6 7NQ, to set off along the coastal route pathways, on national trust land, to the Finish Line of the GNR.
"At the finish line, we will have 2 minutes silence and The local Tyneside and Northumberland MIND will be there to stand with us as we Honour Sam.
"This is where we can all stand together united as the amazing community we are, to honour this incredible man, who is loved by so many!
"Following refreshments will then be available at the New Sundial to raise a glass should anyone wish to do so."
Here is the new run route:
Anyone is welcome to join should they wish, at their own risk. Anyone is also welcome to go from their chosen location if that is personal preference.

I do have permission from the owner of the national trust land who is aware members of the public will be on the land.
She added: "We will honour Sam, we will stand together.
"And I will see you all should you wish to embark on this with me on Sunday."
