One man is set to appear in court and another two remain in custody following stops that saw police find thousands of pounds of cash and class A drugs.

Three men have been arrested as a result of two separate vehicle stops by Cleveland Police on September 11.

The Matrix team stopped an Audi A4 was stopped on the A19 at around 11:55am and thousands of pounds in cash was recovered.

A 30-year-old man from the Hounslow area was arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and no insurance.

He was later charged with the driving offences and bailed in connection with the possession of criminal property whilst enquiries continue. He is set to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court in October.

Later the same day, around 5:40pm, officers received a report of two males on a motorbike possibly in possession of a weapon on Linthorpe Road.

The bike made off from officers before being abandoned on Newport Road.

Officers arrested two males, aged 18 and 33, after a short foot pursuit. A large knife was seized by police and the motorbike was also seized.

An 18-year-old man remains in police custody on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, possession with intent to supply class A drugs and a theft of a motor vehicle.

A 33-year-old man also remains in police custody on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Temporary Superintendent Darren Bainbridge from the Matrix Team, said: “Matrix units are out every day, continuing to tackle those who are intent on committing criminal offences on our roads and within our communities.

“Those committing criminal offences in Cleveland will not be tolerated and can expect to be arrested and dealt with robustly.”
