Could one of these dogs be your perfect match?
Darlington Dogs Trust has a huge selection of furry friends looking for their forever home - and they’re calling on the public to help find forever homes for these adorable pooches.
From gentle giants to energetic companions, each of these dogs has their own unique personality and specific needs - but they’re all looking for someone to swoop in and give them their long-awaited second chance.
And that could be you.
Here’s a look at some of the dogs currently awaiting adoption:
Pixie, Crossbreed
- Age: 2 - 5 years
- Requirements: Adult-only home, no other pets or children
Pixie is a lovable crossbreed who needs a quiet, pet-free home where she can continue to build her confidence. This sensitive soul is undergoing ongoing training and needs a patient adopter willing to invest the time to help her adjust. Once settled, Pixie’s favourite way to unwind is by sunbathing, and she’ll thrive in a home with a secure garden.
Ralfie, Weimaraner Cross
- Age: 1 - 2 years
- Requirements: Active home, no other pets or children, experience with large breeds
For those looking for a more energetic companion, Ralfie could be the perfect fit. This playful Weimaraner Cross is full of life and requires an active household. He’s a larger dog with a lot of energy, so a family experienced with big breeds would suit him best. Ralfie needs training, but his enthusiasm and eagerness to learn make him a great project for the right home.
Scamp, Terrier (Jack Russell)
- Age: 5 - 7 years
- Requirements: Home with no other pets or children. He is epileptic, so needs ongoing medical care.
Scamp has had a lot of change in his life and is therefore looking for a calm and quiet adult-only home as he can be nervous initially. Once settled, he is a loving and friendly boy who likes to snuggle up to you on the sofa, and will also initiate playtime with his favourite toys.
Scamp needs a home with a private garden for off-lead playtime.
Scamp can be worried by dogs out and about and is vocal towards them so will need to be walked in quiet areas. He also struggles to be left alone so will need patient owners at home most of the time that can build this up very gradually.
Zena, Bulldog Cross
- Age: 2 - 5 years
- Requirements: Confident owners, no other pets, older teens (16+)
Zena is a bright and active Bulldog Cross who needs confident and experienced owners to help her with her dog-reactivity training. While she loves to play and is quick to learn new tricks, Zena will need a home where she can be the only dog, and her training can be continued. With the right family, Zena is sure to be a loyal and playful companion.
Otto, Jagdterrier
- Age: 2 ½ years
- Requirements: Experienced owners, no other pets or children, within an hour’s distance of the centre
Otto is a lively terrier who thrives on mental and physical challenges. He’s ideal for a family interested in dog sports such as scent training and tracking. With his sharp intelligence and boundless energy, Otto would be a great fit for an active household that can give him the stimulation he needs.
Shawn, Lurcher
- Age: 2 - 5 years
- Requirements: Older teens (16+), possibly another dog, ongoing training
Shawn, a sociable and energetic Lurcher, is ready for a home where he can continue his training and have plenty of room to run. Known for his playful personality and love of treats (especially cheese), Shawn has won over the staff at Darlington Dogs Trust. He’s looking for a family that can keep up with his high energy and provide the ongoing care he needs.
Zeus, Dobermann
- Age: 2 - 5 years
- Requirements: Confident owners, older children (teenagers), medical care
Zeus is a gentle Dobermann who is recovering from cruciate surgery and will need a family who can continue his care, including hydrotherapy. Despite his medical needs, Zeus is full of affection and would be a great companion for a family familiar with larger breeds. His playful nature and eagerness for snuggles make him a favourite at the shelter.
