With this in mind, the most affordable areas in County Durham to own a property with a private garden space have been unveiled in a new study.

It comes as MG Timber and Online Marketing Surgery have created the “Garden Space Report” which helped rank areas in the county based on their home outdoor space, revealing the best areas to buy houses with a garden.

To do this, the experts have used data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) around access to gardens and public green spaces in UK, where they found the property garden space area for all neighbourhoods in County Durham.

Top 10 areas in County Durham with the most private garden space

  1. Evenwood, Cockfield & Staindrop (area) - 2,058,269 (home garden space area m2)
  2. Stanhope & Weardale - 1,498,713
  3. Benfieldside, Hamsterley & Medomsley - 1,439,531
  4. Barnard Castle & Upper Teesdale - 1,284,480
  5. Aykley Heads, Neville's Cross & Langley Moor - 1,116,883
  6. Sherburn & West Rainton - 1,074,703
  7. Sedgefield & Bishop Middleham - 1,037,232
  8. Burnopfield - 916,009
  9. Chester-le-Street North - 912,618
