A man has been arrested after a 'violent' incident on a train saw a woman taken to hospital. 

Emergency services were called to Stockton Railway Station on Saturday after reports of a man being violent towards a woman on a train.

Pictures from the scene showed the large-scale 999 response, with police, ambulance, and fire crews all parked on the road leading to the platforms, which runs alongside Bishopton Lane.

The train stopped at station and a woman, aged 26, was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, by ambulance crews. 

Cleveland Police has confirmed that a 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of intentional strangulation and is currently in police custody."

The North East Ambulance Service - which sent two ambulance crews to the scene - previously confirmed it took one person to hospital.

Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed it was called by British Transport Police at 10.10pm yesterday evening, with firefighters assisting police until 10.40pm.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "At 9.50pm on Saturday, September 7, police were called to reports of a man being violent towards a woman on a train.

"The train stopped at Stockton railway station on Bishopton Lane and a woman, aged 26, was taken to University Hospital of North Tees by ambulance.

"A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violence against the person and is currently in police custody."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident at Stockton Train Station shortly after 10pm on 7 September.

"We dispatched two ambulance crews and transported one patient to hospital."
