David has since removed all mentions of the soap from his Instagram bio as bosses at Hollyoaks confirmed his departure to The Sun.

The young actor is one of many cast members leaving the Channel 4 show in recent weeks.

More than 20 cast members of Hollyoaks have been axed while the show itself has been cut to just three 20-minute episodes per week.

Previously fan favourite Iz Hesketh announced on social media that she was "unemployed" and "looking for work".

Writing on Instagram: "Kitty has left the village.

"Thank you @hollyoaksofficial for the best 8 months. Thank you to everyone working on the show for welcoming me with open arms, I’ve had the most incredible time becoming part of the family.

"I really tried to create a character who is flawed, lovable, real and unapologetically trans. I can only hope that certain people have seen glimpses of their lived experience reflected in everything I worked so hard on."

Discussing the show's sudden change, a source told The Sun: "There’s a worry other high profile cast members may see this as an opportunity to leave the show.

"While they’re all very supportive of the soap, the reduced budget and seeing friends and colleagues leave after so many years takes its toll.

"If more go willingly then it may be that the writing is very much on the wall for the show. It will be hard to recover from further blows."
