Here are a few of the people who were sentenced at Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee Magistrates’ courts in recently.

The 14 offenders include drink or drug drivers, shoplifters and one who assaulted two police officers when arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Dean Nicholson, of Flamingo Close, Darlington, pleaded guilty to resisting arrest in Darlington on February 21 this year. The 29-year-old was fined £40 and ordered to pay court costs of £85.

Chantelle Stevens, of Delavale Close, Peterlee, pleaded guilty to causing racially/religiously aggravated fear/provocation of violence by words threatening to burn down her victim's home in Peterlee in November 2022. The 32-year-old was fined £200.

Georgina Railton, of Silkin Way, Newton Aycliffe, pleaded guilty to drink driving on her home street after she gave a breathalyser reading of 61 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The 33-year-old was banned from driving for 17 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay a £48 surcharge.

Robert Carr, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to theft from the Iceland store in Stanley on August 3 and 4 this year. The 39-year-old was ordered to pay £30 in compensation to the business.

David Swailes, of Grange Road, Darlington, pleaded guilty to going equipped to steal when he was arrested while carrying a screwdriver on May 30. The 55-year-old was jailed for a total of 18 weeks after breaching the terms of a suspended sentence.

Owen Latchum, of South Church Road, Bishop Auckland, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of cannabis when he was stopped driving along the A688 on June 1. The 28-year-old was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £133 in court costs.

Victoria Young, of Grange Road, Darlington, pleaded guilty to assault by beating on June 22 and failing to attend court on September 2. The 38-year-old was ordered to pay £150 in compensation to the victim.

Conrad Jackson, of West Moor Road, Darlington, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and theft from a shop when he stole £14 worth of shampoo on August 22. The 47-year-old was fined £80.

Kevin Watson-Nixon, of Hisehope Close, Startforth, Barnard Castle, three counts of handling stolen goods after an anvil and two Stihl saws were recovered. A steam cleaner, a petrol strimmer, three milk churns and a hard hat were also recovered along with a radio belonging to a third person. The 38-year-old was ordered to pay £130 in compensation and £450 in court costs.

John O'Neill, of Montrose Street, Darlington, pleaded guilty to driving whilst over the limit for cocaine on Whessoe Road, Darlington, on October 19 last year. The 31-year-old also admitted failing to surrender to custody on September 2. He was banned from driving for 16 months and fined £300.

Ella Todd, of Barden Moor Road, Darlington, pleaded guilty to assault and causing criminal damage to an iPhone belonging to the same victim on September 29 last year. The 19-year-old was made subject of an 18-month community order and told to attend 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Jake Flaherty, of Clarence Street, Bowburn, County Durham, pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting an emergency worker, and two police officers and being drunk and disorderly in Durham, on August 20. The 22-year-old was given an eight-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation.

Brian Hunt, of Jenkins Court, Newton Aycliffe, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention on the A167 on January 14, when he was stopped in his VW Golf. The 43-year-old was banned from driving for six months after having six points added to his licence. He was also fined £120.

James Raymer, of Kirkstone Place, Newton Aycliffe, admitted drink driving when he was stopped on Middridge Lane, Middridge, on August 19. The 40-year-old was disqualified from driving for two years, fined £200 and ordered to pay £165 in court costs.
