A restaurant is offering a free steak to everyone who finishes the Great North Run - and a slap-up family meal for the person who comes in last.

Argentinian eatery, Gaucho, will be presenting prizes hidden in lucky Gaucho Gold envelopes to runners as they complete the 13.1-mile race on Sunday.

A spokesman said: “Gaucho Newcastle is thrilled to announce a series of exciting initiatives to honour the runners who cross the finish line.

“As part of Gaucho’s commitment to supporting the local community and recognising the incredible efforts of the Great North Runners, Gaucho will be offering complimentary steaks to  all race finishers.

From the moment the first runner crosses the finish line until September 12, Gaucho Newcastle will offer a free steak to everyone who completes the Great North Run. All they need do is present their medal.

“Gaucho Newcastle will also be honouring the perseverance of the last runner to cross the finish line with a slap-up meal and drinks for three of their friends.”
