Two friends have raised thousands of pounds for charity by running the width of the country in aid of veterans.

Middlesbrough friends Nathan Steel and Isaac Kibrigie, both aged 31, have managed to raise just short of £3,500 for armed forces charity ssfa by running across the country.

Starting at St Bees in Cumbria and ending at Robin Hoods Bay in Whitby, the duo began their 192 miltrek on August 24 and even though they did split up, both crossed the line on August 29 and 30.

Nathan told The Northern Echo: "We were out on a stag do a few months ago and started discussing wanting to complete a challenge. We went on Google, found a few and the coast to coast was one of the first we stumbled across.

"We then took around six week to train - which definitely wasn't enough but went ahead and did it!"

However, Nathan admitted that it "didn't go to plan" initially as the pair hit bad weather and even needed a trip to hospital.

Despite this, the pair say they are proud and happy to have completed the admirable feat.

"Looking back and knowing we have done it is just unbelievable. After we finished I spoke to Isaac and said that these are the type of challenges that nobody can take away from you.

"It's something to look back on - a story to tell the kids and grandkids. To have done it in six or seven days is phenomenal."

As for another challenge, the pair are taking a breather before they consider doing another challenge.

But, Nathan admitted: "We definitely will do - the feeling you get combined with the support we got from people who never met us was phenomenal."
