A man has been arrested after a double stabbing in Hartlepool which saw a man and woman knifed.

A 30-year-old man suffered a stab wound to his abdomen and a woman, 36, suffered a more minor blade injury to her leg at separate addresses in the town on Wednesday (September 4).

Emergency crews were first called to Stephen Street at about 9.20pm by paramedics after the man had been found injured. He was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

About 20 minutes later police were called to a property on Sherrif Street where the woman was allegedly attacked.

The 30-year-old’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The incidents are being linked and the victims are believed to have been known to the suspect, police said.

A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with both incidents and remains in police custody.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “Detectives would appeal for any witnesses to these incidents or anyone with CCTV footage to contact Hartlepool CID on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number SE24171029.
