Full planning permission for change of use for a popular Richmond hotel to be converted into a single house has been submitted to North Yorkshire Council.

The Frenchgate Hotel And Restaurant, in Frenchgate, Richmond, currently takes over both 59 Frenchgate and 61 Frenchgate.

Both are individually designated grade II listed buildings.

The application is for the change of use of the existing hotel to a single dwelling. There are no internal nor external alterations proposed, simply the change of use.

Whilst there are six existing members of part-time staff at the Frenchgate Hotel, these are to be transferred to The Fleece Hotel in the town centre, which has recently been purchased by the applicant and has been closed for several months.

Therefore, whilst there will be a loss of jobs shown on the application form, these are in fact created through the re-opening of the nearby hotel and staff are being retained to simply transfer across.

No.59 is a three-storey property of early to mid-19th century date. It was constructed as a dwelling of four bays, the door being within the second bay.
