A school has paid tribute to one of its pupils who died in a horror crash last week, just days after collecting her GSCE results.
Sixteen-year-old Sarah Cain from Hartlepool died in hospital on Saturday (August 31) two days after a crash on the A1(M) in West Yorkshire.
The schoolgirl was in a Kia Niro which was involved in a crash with a Citroen C5, when both cars collided with a Subaru Outback towing a caravan, police said.
Sarah’s school, The English Martyrs Catholic School in Hartlepool, said it was deeply saddened by her death.
In a statement on Facebook the school said: “We deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sarah Cain, a student who has been with us for five years and was set to continue her studies with us in Year 12.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time of great loss and sadness.
Sarah’s family previously said: "We as a family are devastated by the death of our beautiful Sarah. She is and always will be irreplaceable. We ask for privacy at this time to grieve her loss."
The male driver of the Citroen C5, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences in connection with the incident and later released on police bail.
Two other people remained in hospital earlier this week having sustained serious injuries.
