Five extra trains will be operating ahead of this year’s Great North Run on Tyneside.
The extra LNER services will provide thousands more seats to help runners and spectators arriving for the popular half marathon, which remains a firm favourite on the sporting calendar.
The additional trains are planned to run on Sunday morning in addition to the existing timetable, with services between Edinburgh Waverley, Durham, Darlington, Doncaster, Leeds and Newcastle.
David Flesher, Commercial Director at LNER, said: “Many thousands of people will be making their way to Newcastle for the Great North Run.
"Our services will bring people into the heart of the city, and we are delighted to be supporting those taking part and those cheering them on.
"We encourage customers to plan and book ahead and reserve a seat as trains are likely to be very popular.”
