Clubbers are set to step back in time as two of Darlington's most popular former nightclubs are celebrated at a new event.

Escapade, on Gladstone Street, and Route 66, on King Street, may be nothing but a distant memory for punters having both been shuttered for many years.

But now, the anthems of dancefloor past are set to grace Ignite Darlington, on Skinnergate, as the venue revisits the popular haunts on a special trip down memory lane.

The event is set to take place on Saturday, September 14, from 9pm until 1.30am, and will take over two rooms at the club.

Ignite first launched in 2021 following a major revamp of the former Keys club - with the grand opening taking place after a year of closures due to the covid pandemic.

Escapade, which took over Mardi Gras after opening in 2004, is still fondly remembered for hosting a "top night" out.

The club later rebranded as The Hub after a major refurbishment in 2012 - but sadly called last orders just six months later.

Meanwhile, Route 66, or Routes, which was located next to the former Aruba nightclub, was well-known for its "awesome" decor and dancefloor.

The King Street building - alongside Aruba - is set to be flattened to make way for new development, but this was delayed last year after structural issues came to light.

Tickets for the event are now available on Skiddle.
