Two women were reportedly attacked while walking a dog through a cemetery after asking a man to put his dogs on a lead.

Police have today released a picture of a man they want to speak to to aid their investigation into the alleged assault which happened just before 3pm on July 21 at the cemetery on Burdon Lane in Ryhope, Sunderland.

One of the two female victims is said to have asked a man to put his dogs on a lead when he refused and turned violent.

They told police he had spat on them both, while one of the women was bitten and their dog attacked by the man’s canines.

A full investigation has been launched and police have now released a picture of a man they want to speak to, who they believe was in the area at the time and might be able to help them.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Officers investigating a report of an assault have released an image of a man they would like to speak to.
