A former Teesside Park nightclub is being gutted by construction crews as work continues to transform the unit into a new gym.
Fitness giant PureGym is set to open a new 15-000 square foot facility in the former Millennium nightclub, located next door to the Ninja Warrior adventure park.
The former nightclub - which has stood vacant for many years - was open between 1996 and 2002 before having a brief resurgence under a new name in the late 2000s.
Despite the venue now being just a distant memory, the Millennium continues to be thought of fondly for its “awesome nights” and “good memories” - with one person saying it was the “best night club back in the day”.
But now a new chapter is being marked at the site, with new pictures sent in showing how the front of the unit has been stripped off and its exterior cordoned off by a metal fence.
The top of the unit and its beams from the floor have also recently been painted dark grey and match the colour scheme of Ninja Warrior, which opened in July.
Earlier this year, Teesside Park bosses confirmed that PureGym would be moving into the unit for a new 24/7 gym, featuring “state-of-the-art” equipment, fitness classes and personal training.
While an opening date has not been confirmed for the new PureGym, it is expected to launch later this year, with works visibly well underway as the interior is gutted and revamped.
PureGym’s launch will follow a long line of brands opening up at Teesside Park recently, including the likes of Primark, Nike, and Ninja Warrior.
There are also several more chains due to open up in the coming months and into next year, including Rituals, Mango, White Stuff, Flannels, and the expanded Sports Direct store.
Catherine Furlong, centre director at Teesside Park, previously said: “It’s fantastic to announce Pure Gym as the latest big brand set to join us.
"As well as bringing a great new offering to Teesside Park and supporting the health and wellbeing of our local community, it will also create even more job opportunities.”
A PureGym spokesperson added: “PureGym is excited to be bringing affordable, flexible fitness to Stockton-on-Tees later this year.
