Motorists have been urged to avoid a County Durham bridge as police deal with a welfare incident.

Officers were called at 10.45am on Monday (September 2) following concerns for the welfare of a man on County Bridge, in Barnard Castle.

Reports suggest the road - a main route through the town - was blocked off by police from the late morning.

Durham Constabulary confirmed police remain at the scene and have urged motorists to avoid the area.
