Officers are appealing for information to help trace a witness as enquiries into a fatal road traffic collision continue.
Police received a report via the ambulance service of a collision on Binswood Avenue, Newcastle close to the junction with Sunnyway, in the Blakelaw area, at 9.40am on Sunday, July 21,
An orange and black off-road motorbike and a black MG6 car had collided.
Emergency services attended the scene and the male rider of the motorbike was taken to hospital having sustained serious head injuries.
Sadly, despite the efforts of medical staff the man – 31-year-old Billy Eaglestone from Seaton Burn – passed away in hospital the day after the collision.
His family are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.
The driver of the car involved in the collision was uninjured and remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries.
A full investigation was immediately launched by Northumbria Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit into the circumstances of the incident.
Last month, officers appealed for help to identify the driver of a grey Mercedes A-Class car that was in the area at the time of the collision.
The driver has now contacted police.
Today (Monday), officers are appealing for help to trace a man who was believed to be in the area at the time and could have information which may assist them.
Sergeant Craig Bartle, of Northumbria Police, said: “Our thoughts remain firmly with the family and loved ones of Billy at what I’m sure continues to be an incredibly difficult time.
“We will offer them all of the support they need.”
Sgt Bartle added: “Our investigation into the collision is continuing and we are now appealing for your help to locate a man who could assist us.
“The man, who was wearing running or sportswear, is believed to have been jogging on Sunnyway at the time of the incident and may have seen what took place.
“We understand that he stayed at the scene following the collision but then left prior to officers’ arrival.
“The man, or anyone who knows who he might be, should contact us immediately as he may have important details which could assist us in our investigation.”
