North East hedgehogs which have been nursed back to health need safe and supportive ‘forever homes’.
A Teesside hedgehog rehabilitation and rescue centre is seeking volunteers to rehome hedgehogs.
‘Smoggy Hog’s Hedgehog Rescue Middlesbrough’ rescues ill and injured hogs from throughout the TS postcode areas.
So far this year, almost 200 hogs have been taken into care, and nurtured back to health by their volunteer team.
If you have a safe garden, away from busy roads, you may be able to help.
Claire Dixon from Smoggy Hogs said: “We need volunteers to come forward, who would be willing to support rehabilitated hedgehogs. The garden needs to be safe, away from busy roads, but with access for the hogs to roam freely during the night.
“A place with no slug pellets or poison, with humans who are willing to support feed and provide a hedgehog house”, she said.
Hedgehogs eat a natural diet of worms, slugs and bugs. Support feeding should include kitten food and fresh water.
Hedgehogs are nocturnal animals and if seen out during the day, are likely in need of help. Secure the hog in a high sided box, with a shallow bowl of water and a towel for them to hide under.
Please don’t wait a few days before seeking advice, call a rescue centre immediately.
For more information, Smoggy Hogs, Middlesborough, can be found on Facebook.
Please call Claire on 07871345309 or 07791 099896 for immediate support when finding a hog, during the day.
