Forensics teams swarmed a residential street after a man was seriously injured in an assault last night.
Three men, aged 25, 32 and 34, have been arrested on suspicion of assault after police were alerted of a disturbance in the Saltwell Road South area of Low Fell in Gateshead.
Specialist officers have been searching the area since 10pm last night.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Just after 10.15pm yesterday (Friday), we received a report of a disturbance in the Saltwell Road South area of Low Fell in Gateshead.
“Officers attended the scene where a man was found to have sustained serious injuries consistent with having been assaulted. He currently remains in hospital for treatment.
“An investigation was immediately launched to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and three men, aged 25, 32 and 34, have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

“A police cordon remains in place on Saltwell Road South while our investigations are ongoing.
