Two people have been taken to hospital following a five-vehicle crash in Middlesbrough. 

Emergency services were called to Parliament Road, at its junction with Union Street and Longford Street, after a collision on Friday. 

A cordon was erected across the street while a flurry of police, ambulance, and fire crews dealt with the incident, which took place around 7.12pm. 

Pictures from the scene show two damaged vehicles as well as the front of a property, which was reportedly crashed into by one of the cars.

Other images also show the damaged cars being recovered, while a large group of people watch from behind the blue and white police tape.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed it sent a clinical team leader and double crewed ambulance to the scene, and took two people to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

Their conditions are not currently known.

A spokesperson said: "We were called at 7.12pm this evening (Friday, August 30) to a five vehicle road traffic collision at the junction of Parliament Road, Union Street and Longford Street in Middlesbrough.

"We dispatched a clinical team leader and a double crewed ambulance. Two patients were taken to James Cook Hospital."

A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson added: "There were two appliances at the scene from Middlesbrough and the time of call was 5.35pm. 

"We were there not for the road traffic collision but for a structural check on a property that had been damaged. We were made available at 8.02pm."
