County Durham's most dangerous train stations have been named using crime data. 

The data, revealed each month by the British Transport Police and Police.Uk, has shown the top five most dangerous train stations by crime statistics.

It looks at the stations with the highest number of reported crimes in close proximity, including bicycle theft, burglary, criminal damage, drugs, sexual assaults, and other crimes.

Durham Station came in at the top of the list, with 66 reported crimes between June 2023 and June 2024.

Of these reported crimes, the most common category near the station was violence and sexual offences, making up 28 of the reported incidents. 

Bishop Auckland train station came in close at second, with 52 reported crimes, between June 2023 and June 2024. The majority of these incidents (17) were crimes linked to anti-social behaviour.

The third most dangerous County Durham train station has been named Darlington.

A total of 48 crimes were recorded in the same timeframe, with figures showing violent and sexual offences being the most common. 

According to the data, 14 incidents fell into this category.
