The most popular train stations in the North East have been revealed - including Durham, Darlington, and a few other surprise additions from across the region.
New research from West Somerset Railway has revealed that Newcastle-upon-Tyne Train Station is the most popular train station in the North East, according to internet searches.
Newcastle Station topped the list receiving an impressive 27,100 searches.
Darlington Train Station came second (22,200), and Durham came third (14,800).
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough and Sunderland were two of the surprising additions in the list, while Redcar Central came in at the bottom of the top 10 with 1,600 average monthly searches.
Looking further into the top three most popular train stations, the most popular journey from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Station is to London Kings Cross, and Darlington is also to London Kings Cross. Finally, Durham Train Station's most popular journey takes passengers to Newcastle Station.
Taking into account the United Kingdom altogether, searches for over 100 mainline train stations were analysed by West Somerset Railway totalling over six million average searches across the UK.

Speaking on the findings, Samantha White from West Somerset Railway who conducted the research, said: “It is amazing to see that there are so many searches for train stations in the United Kingdom, including Newcastle-Upon-Tyne being the most searched station in the North East.
“I feel that six million average searches across the United Kingdom in the last year goes to show that there is a desire in the public to use train services as a main form of public transport.
"Whether that be commuting to work or travelling to beautiful areas of the country on a holiday, the demand for train travel remains high.”
